Why it happens

The fat that diet will not shift

Some fat deposits have a memory of their own: lower abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, chin. They are set by genetics and hormones, which is why they resist diet and exercise even in people at their ideal weight. It is not lack of willpower — it is distribution.

That is where liposuction makes sense — and where its role ends: it is not an obesity treatment nor a substitute for healthy habits. It is the tool to redraw contours that do not depend on you.

Techniques

From liposuction to body sculpting

1

WAL (water-assisted) liposuction

Water gently detaches the fat without tearing vessels: fewer bruises, less swelling and a notably faster recovery than conventional lipo.

2

High-definition sculpting

Not just extracting — sculpting: waistline, midline and natural contours for an athletic, harmonious result.

3

Fat transfer (lipofilling)

The harvested fat is reused where it adds — buttocks, breasts, grooves: taking from where it spares to give where it lacks.

4

Combined surgery

Liposuction alongside breast augmentation, mastopexy or tummy tuck in a single operation, with one recovery.

Before surgery

Consultation and pre-operative workup

Your consultation starts with a thorough assessment of your anatomy and goals, followed by a photographic study used to plan the procedure and compare your results later on.

Practical points that apply to every surgery: arrive at a stable weight, have your medication reviewed (antiplatelets and anticoagulants are usually paused beforehand, always together with your doctor) and stop smoking well in advance.

Specific here: reasonable skin elasticity matters — with very lax skin, removing fat can worsen sagging, and the honest indication may be a lift or a tummy tuck instead.

The pre-operative tests and the anaesthesia assessment are completed at Quirónsalud Málaga Hospital.

Recovery

Recovery, day by day

With the WAL technique the post-operative course is remarkably lighter than traditional lipo. The realistic calendar:

First 48–72 hours

Intense muscle-soreness feeling rather than pain, managed with standard medication. The compression garment goes on from day one.

Days 3–5

Most patients return to office work. Bruising — smaller with WAL — changes colour and fades.

Days 10–14

Physically demanding jobs and progressive light exercise, as cleared at review.

Months 1–2

The garment completes its cycle; swelling recedes and the skin adapts to the new contour.

3–6 months

The definitive result: settled tissues and visible definition.

Scars

Where they sit and how they evolve

Liposuction incisions measure barely 3–4 millimetres and sit in hidden spots: the navel, the bikini line, natural folds. With time they become genuinely hard to find, even knowing where to look.

Surgical honesty

What liposuction does not do

01

It does not make you lose weight

It sculpts contours; it does not treat excess weight or replace habits. Kilograms belong to diet — shapes to lipo.

02

It does not tighten loose skin

With poor elasticity, extracting fat can worsen sagging: there the right operation is a lift or a tummy tuck. Saying so clearly is part of the job.

03

It does not remove cellulite

Orange-peel skin is a dermal issue, not a deep fat deposit. Another expectation to set before, not after.

04

It does not prevent weight gain

Removed cells do not return, but the remaining ones can grow. The sculpted shape holds best… if you hold too.

Patient information

Risks and contraindications

Every surgery carries risks and this one is no exception. You will go through them in detail during your consultation and in writing in the informed-consent form; this is the honest summary.

Expected — not a complication

  • Bruising and swelling, reduced with the WAL technique.
  • Muscle-soreness sensation and temporary numb areas.
  • Minor irregularities while the skin adapts.

Uncommon

  • Seroma needing drainage.
  • Persistent contour irregularities warranting a touch-up.
  • Hyperpigmentation of a treated area.

When not to operate. As an obesity treatment, never. With very lax skin, lipo alone is the wrong tool. And with ‘new body in a week’ expectations, the honest conversation comes first.

Price

Liposuction price in Málaga

The cost depends on the number of areas treated (abdomen, flanks, thighs, chin…) and whether fat transfer is included. After assessment you receive a closed quote covering the operating room at Quirónsalud Málaga, fees and full follow-up.

About cheap offers. You will see plenty. Our honest advice: research and choose your surgeon first, and only then compare prices — never the other way round.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions about liposuction

Does the fat come back if I gain weight?

The extracted fat cells are gone for good — but the remaining ones can enlarge if you gain weight. The sculpted proportions tend to hold better than before surgery.

How much fat can be removed safely?

Safety rules: the amount depends on your body surface and medical judgement, not on a magic number. Over-extraction is the classic source of irregularities.

What is the difference between WAL and traditional liposuction?

WAL uses a fan of water to detach fat gently instead of tearing it loose: fewer damaged vessels, so less bruising, less swelling and a faster, more comfortable recovery.

What anaesthesia is used?

The anaesthetic protocol is decided at your consultation, with the assessment of the anaesthesia team at Quirónsalud Málaga Hospital as part of the pre-operative workup.
