Why it happens

Men store fat differently

Men store fat in their own pattern: flanks (love handles), lower abdomen, chest and double chin. These deposits resist diet and exercise even when the rest of the body is fit, because they respond to genetics and hormones more than to calories.

Liposuction treats exactly that: localised subcutaneous fat. What it does not treat is visceral fat, inside the abdomen; that only goes down with weight, and telling one from the other is the first task of the consultation.

The goal in men is not a narrow waist but a straight trunk: remove the flank, flatten the abdomen and mark the chest without creating feminine shapes. Dr. Padilla works with the WAL (Body-Jet) technique, which separates the fat with a fine water jet, with fewer bruises and an easier recovery.

Areas

Where male liposuction is performed

1

Flanks and abdomen

The most requested combination. The whole abdomen and the flanks are treated in one operation so the trunk is straight from the front and in profile.

2

Chest

When chest enlargement is fatty (pseudogynecomastia), liposuction is enough. If there is gland, it is combined with gynecomastia surgery.

3

Double chin

Fat under the chin with firm skin: chin liposuction under local anaesthesia with sedation. See neck lift.

4

Fat grafting

The fat removed can be reused to project the chin or jawline, or to correct small depressions.

Am I a candidate?

When it is indicated

1

Localised fat with stable weight

The ideal candidate is close to their weight with specific deposits that will not go. Liposuction is not a weight-loss treatment.

2

Elastic skin

After the fat is removed the skin has to retract. If there is surplus skin, liposuction alone would leave it hanging: then the indication is a male tummy tuck.

3

Hard belly

If the abdomen is firm and round, the fat is visceral and cannot be operated. It is explained in consultation and weight control is advised.

4

Combinations

Flanks + abdomen + chest are usually done in one surgery. With a tummy tuck, flank liposuction completes the contour.

Aftercare

Recovery, step by step

First days: day surgery or one night in hospital depending on the extent; compression garment from the start; muscle-soreness type discomfort controlled with medication.

Weeks 1 to 4: three to five days off sedentary work; garment for four weeks; bruises fade in two or three weeks.

Result: the contour shows at one month and settles between three and six months. Sport from the third or fourth week with the doctor's approval.

Patient information

Risks and contraindications

Every surgery carries risks and this one too. You will go through them in detail in consultation and in writing in the informed consent; this is the honest summary.

Expected, not a complication

  • Bruising and swelling in the first weeks.
  • Numbness of the treated skin, which recovers progressively.
  • Soreness and tightness.

Uncommon

  • Seroma requiring drainage.
  • Contour irregularities or small asymmetries.
  • Pigmentation changes at the incision points.
  • Venous thrombosis: prevented with early walking and, when indicated, heparin.

When not to operate. Not with active smoking, unstable weight or when the fat is visceral. Nor as a substitute for a tummy tuck when what is in excess is skin.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions about male liposuction in Málaga

Does liposuction make you lose weight?

No. It removes localised subcutaneous fat deposits in people with a stable weight. Visceral fat, the "hard belly", cannot be suctioned: it only goes down with weight.

Which areas are most treated in men?

Flanks and abdomen, almost always together; then the chest (when the enlargement is fatty) and the double chin.

Will I end up with a feminine waist?

Not if it is planned as male surgery: the goal is to straighten the trunk and flatten the abdomen, not to narrow the waist.

What is the WAL technique?

Water-assisted liposuction (Body-Jet): a fine jet of saline gently separates the fat while it is suctioned. Less trauma, fewer bruises and better-quality fat if it is to be reused.

What if I have surplus skin?

Then liposuction alone is not the answer: the skin would hang. In that case the indication is a male tummy tuck, with or without flank liposuction.
